The Rev. (Mrs.) Kathleen G.A. Betts-Cole is currently the Priest in charge of Christ Pentecostal Church since 1996 at its headquarters located on Hannesson Street, New England, Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Rev. Betts-Cole has dual careers. Her first love is nursing. She has worked tirelessly in this field, positively promoting education and the welfare of mothers and babies. In 2004, even though retired she was awarded Sierra Leone’s distinguish honor of ‘Nurse of the Year’ by the All Works of Life Group (AWOL).
A year earlier in 2003 she was elected the 13th President of the West African College of Nursing and served in this capacity until 2005.
She represented the Region of Africa at the International Confederation of Midwives for nine years. In the area of safe motherhood, she was a temporary adviser to the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland and has also worked as a temporary consultant for the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund in Sierra Leone.

The Bachelor of Science honors program for nursing at Sierra Leone School of Nursing was pioneered by her.

She is a member of the board of trustees for Christ Pentecostal’s mission. She sits on various boards such as Sierra Leone Nurses and Midwives, Sierra Leone Post Graduate Medical, Henzer Medical Center, Ronsabs Preparatory School, Hope Preparatory School and Hope Vocational Institute.

Mrs. Betts-Cole retired as the First Principal of the Sierra Leone National School of Midwifery at the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital where she was a Midwifery teacher for over 20 years.

Her continuing education includes Strategies for Strengthening Family Planning into the Basic Nursing and Midwifery curriculum at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, USA; Family Planning Nurse Practitioner course at The State University of New York, Down State Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York, USA and the Integration of Family Welfare Services at The Center for African Family Studies, Westland, Kenya.

She received her Nursing, Nursing Administration, Midwifery and Midwifery teacher’s diploma in England.

She continues her philanthropic work as Proprietress of The Abigail J. Cole’s Orphanage (named after her mother, who started the mission) of which she has been an integral part of over 50 years.

Reverend Betts-Cole has two daughters living in the U.S.A.
